Cigar Shops Battle High Taxes and Recession

For cigar and humidor aficionados, local cigar shops provide the solution for all of their cigar related needs. The typical cigar shop contains hundreds of different types of cigars, and they generally have more than one type of humidor for you to purchase; however, these shops are beginning to be affected by increasingly high taxes and the recession. The anti smoking political platform has not helped either. Most single cigars from a shop’s humidor range from $1.50 to $50.00 apiece compared to the cost of cigarettes, which are, on average, $7.25 for a pack of 20. Variety of product is essential if a cigar shop wants to survive in these times. On a national average, after factoring in taxes and wholesale costs, the proprietor of a cigar shop will only make about a 4 cent profit on each cigar he or she sells. As the prices for cigars continue to climb with no end in sight, most cigar shop owners recommend that an individual fill their humidor with their favorite cigars now, rather than later.
